Featured Speaker: Kimberly Powell

Kimberly Powell is a genealogical researcher, author, editor, and volunteer. She is past President of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), serving seven years as a board member and on the Professional Development Committee.

Kimberly was the Genealogy Expert with About.com (http://genealogy.about.com) for sixteen years. She is the author of several books, including most recently "The Challenge of Endogamy and Pedigree Collapse" in Advanced Genetic Genealogy: Techniques and Case Studies and The Everything Guide to Online Genealogy, 3rd edition (Adams Media, 2014). She has also contributed to several popular genealogy magazines, including BBC's Who Do You Think You Are?, Family Tree Magazine, and the Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly.

Kimberly is an instructor at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP), the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG), and the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR), as well as in the online genealogy courses offered through Boston University.

Kimberly specializes in family history research in southwestern Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, North Carolina, and South Carolina. She has extensive experience at full family genealogies, including immigrant families, branching out through multiple states, countries, and time periods. Other specialties include land research, land platting, complex problem-solving, and DNA analysis.
