Genealogy Sites
One of my goals with genealogy research has always been to find a connection to living relatives in the Czech Republic. All 3 of my Czech ancestors were Great Grandparents who came over in the late 1800s and early 1900s. My grandmother and her siblings did speak Czech and knew of the family still living in Czechoslovakia. But that info was mostly lost after a couple more generations. Or at least it was lost until I found the Czech letters from Bradacov that I had posted earlier. When I found those letters and had them translated I needed to know more of the family that stayed behind. I had taken the DNA test on ancestory.com and had made a few matches here in the U.S. but had never found a match in Czech Republic. About 6 years ago I moved my DNA test results to myheritage.com and immediately started getting DNA matches in the Czech Republic. Over the past few years I've contacted many of the higher probability matches. Some of them replied while others did not. Of those that replied we were never able to find that common ancestor in our family trees....until yesterday. That's when I found my first DNA match with a verifiable common relative in the Vitovsky branch of my family tree from near Smilovy Hory. He is my 4th cousin. His great great grandfather and my great great grand father were brothers. It's amazing how with that one little piece of information you can feel such an immediate connection with someone you've never met. We've been shooting messages back and forth all day now. Still a lot of questions and research to be done. But this makes all the years of digging worth the effort.
I'm curious if anyone else has had success with DNA testing on other genealogy websites. There are still 2 more branches of my tree I'd like to explore.
