Determine A Village

I was told that I need to determin the village that someone comes from before I can go any further with my research. On the declaraton of intention the birthplace is stated as being Strvtek, Czech Slovakia. On this persons social security form it states that his birthplace was Bohemia. On one of his daughters birth certificates it states that he was born in Trencin Region, Hungary Europe. How do I determine what village he came from?

Well, Bohemia is definitely present-day Czech republic, but Trencin region is definitely Slovakia. Trencin is much narrower than Bohemia. A general guideline is the the farther away from the event, the less accurate the information. I don’t see any village even close to “Strvtek” in Czech Republic.
In the Trencin region of slovakia, there is a village named STIAVNIK. I would bet that is the name.
Let’s check it against the phone book to see if the surname is nearby – what is the surname you are researching?
