CGSI Traveling Library
With members throughout the United States and other countries, CGSI continuously searches for ways to assist members in their research.
At the 2005 annual membership meeting, a member proposed to have part of the CGSI library travel to other locations. The CGSI Traveling Library was created to provide members with new information and to introduce new people to the field of family history and genealogy, and has been a popular staple at the past several CGSI Conferences.
Some material available in the CGSI Traveling Library are as follows:
- Czech, Slovak and German dictionaries and sources of common words written in documents, on graves, and in personal family papers
- Maps with indexes and gazetteers of villages
- Passenger lists of ship arrivals with Czech or Slovak surnames
- Indexes of land holdings and religious censuses of the 1600s
- Materials specific to the local areas where the library is traveling
Through its facilitation of genealogical resources to locations outside the physical library at its headquarters, CGSI continues to support and expand with the help and interest of volunteer members.
