Denní Hlasatel Archive
The Denní Hlasatel was a Chicago Czech-language daily newspaper founded in 1891 and published through 2006, making it the longest-running Czech serial in the world.
In September of 2023 CGSI acquired digitization and publication rights to use, copy, distribute, publish and present all issues of the Denní Hlasatel.
Issues of the Denní Hlasatel contained obituaries which are immensely useful for genealogy. It is estimated that the Denní Hlasatel printed close to 100,000 obituaries over the course of 115 years.
CGSI's collection of Denní hlasatel issues have been created from digitized microfilms. Researching in this collection can be made easier by becoming familiar with the strategies and tips shared in Reading the Denní Hlasatel Archive.
In digitizing the 115-year run of the Denní Hlasatel newspaper and making it available online, CGSI is preserving a unique record of the Czech and Slovak immigrant experience in the United States, a unique resource whose value reaches beyond the genealogy community to include historians, academics, and independent researchers.
