using "permalink" as permanent link in footnotes

I am finding that some links I am using in footnotes for my family history don't work anymore. I am experimenting with the use of Permalink, which provides a permanent link to information provided by a website, no matter what. Has anyone used them extensively and would like to share their thoughts? Thanks, Lee Bergquist
