Looking for information on Ivanovo Selo, Croatia

Description

I am looking for information on the village of Ivanovo Selo, Croatia. I have heard that this village was the home of many Czechs who migrated from Bohemia during the 19th century. Why would they have moved there?

Hello!

I couldn't help but notice your post.  I know it has been a long time since you posted this question to the message board but I wanted to make sure at least one person helped answer your question.  I have been looking into this myself for some time now and what I had found out was that the 1st  larger group of Czechs arrived in Croatian Slavonia in 1825, as a mercenary work force on the lands of Count Perejacevic. The Count did not fulfill his promises to them so they petitioned the War Council to be incorporated into the federation of the Military Border District. The War Council complied with their request and in 1826 the Czechs established the 1st Czech settlement of Joannisdorf/Ivanovo Selo.

The Neighboring districts of Daruvar, Pakrac and Sirac, owned by Count Jankovic, sought proper settlers.  He had advertisements printed in Pressburg and Viennese newspapers in 1814 and 1826-7.  He had 60 Czech families come and settle in Koncanica.

I recommend checking out Ivanovo Selo “Proslost posuta trnjem i suzama” by author Vienceslav Herout; 1996.
