Originally published in Chicago in 1900 in the Czech language, this book documents early Czech and Slovak Protestant immigration to North America. It includes the names of the laity and clergy who organized the early churches and is a good source for locating ancestral villages. It has been translated from the original Czech by Jan and Anna Dus.
Jan Dus Bio: A long-time friend of CGSI, Jan acted as multilingual coordinator for the CGSI 2005 Back to the Homeland Conference. He has helped many with archival searches, as well as assisting travelers to the Czech and Slovak Republics. Jan, Anna, Marta, Tomas & Magda are residents of Policka in the Czech Moravian Highlands. Jan is an ordained minister in the Church of the Czech Brethren in the Czech Republic as well as the Presbyterian Church USA. He has studied at Dubuque Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa and has been an assistant pastor at the Presbyterian Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Jan & Anna translated Pamatnik. The book can help you find your ancestral village. It also describes early Czech-American communities, clergy and lay leaders.
