Slovakian geography question, or what does "Fri." mean on immigration record?

Description

Hi All,

I am new at researching my family's history.  I'm trying to figure out what part of Slovakia they are from. On my grandfather's immigration record (1921), it states he is from "Fri Revuce."  In his 1923 naturalization petition, he's listed as being from Prostredna Revuca. In his 1937 naturalization petition, he is just listed as being from Prostredna.  Looking at Czech digitized birth records, I was able to find his brother's but not his, and that lists the family as from Liptovski Revuce, Rozomberok, Slovakia.  It appears that there is a town Revuce in modern Slovakia, but there is also several with Prostredna appended to their names and a region with that name. Does anyone have an idea what the "Fri" might refer to, and what actual village it might reference?  Thank you so much!

Hello Kat,

It would be helpful to see the original handwriting, however, I think it might be the word 'Tri' which means the number three (3) in Slovak. The Liptovske Revuce place includes the three former communities, the Higher, Middle and Lower Revuca (Vysna, Prostredna or Stredna & Nizna Revuca). At that time period, when they emigrated, it was also called the Three Revuce - in Slovak 'Tri Revuce'.

For this reason, it would be great to see the immigration record, if instead of a  letter 'F' is not written the letter 'T' (Tri, Tri Revuce). If you would like to discuss it further, you are welcome to attend a virtual quarterly CGSI discussion session, next one is on Feb 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM CT.
