Appelt
I am researching the genealogy of my maternal grandmother whose father and grandfather came from what is now the Czech Republic. My maternal grandmother was Ella Appelt. Her father Charles Appelt, came to Detroit Michigan in 1853 with three siblings and their parents, Wenzel Appelt (b. around 1813) and Caroline Altman, (born around 1818). Wenzel died in 1854. I have been to Detroit and have found many graves and certified birth or death certificates but nothing so far for Wenzel. Wenzel is listed as being born in Alt Harzdorf, Reichenberg, , Boehmen Koenigreich, Austria. Caroline Altman is also listed as coming from the same place. I cannot find either of their parents and have been told that the only way I can get information is to go to Liberec, Czech Republic but even if I go, I will be unable to read the records. I am planning a trip to the Czech Republic in July and am interested in hiring someone to help me research and guide me to the ancestral village. If you can help me, please respond.
