Description

I'm having a terrible time gathering information about my maternal grandparents. Their last name was Choutka. They came to the USA in the late 1800s and lived most of their life in Madison County, NE. Has anyone run into this name?

The Joseph and Rose Choutka grave marker info of "V Bracicich Cechach" that Jason Cadek provided is a great clue. The town of origin may possibly translate to Bračitz / Bratčice.

There is family tree info in FamilySearch.org for a Josef Choutka born Sep 30, 1850 in Bratčice, Čáslav, Čechy, Rakousko. He married Rosalie Bolková on July 14 1872 in Potěhy, Čáslav, Čechy, Rakousko.

Here is the link to Josef and Rosalie Choutka’s 1872 marriage record in the online Prague Regional Archives: (second entry on the page)

Is this record a possible match to your Choutka grandparents?

Hi John - a quick scan looks like it's a pretty rate surname in Nebraska and the US.  Have you connected to a village in Bohemia or is that still a gap?  It appears the family - Joseph and Rose came to the US around 1881.  Looks like the grave marker says "V Bracicich Cechach"  Jason Cadek, Omaha, NE
