Hello. I am looking for any relatives of my four grandparents as well as information anyone may have regarding the villages where they came from.

Here is a link to their surnames that I have posted in CGSI Member Surnames https://cgsi.org/cgsi-member-surnames?search_api_fulltext=&field_european_country=All&uid=member+%2824249%29

Thank you

Hello Tim. I will add that in Fačkov, Žilina, Slovakia, are these names common. My mother is from Rajec area and there are Gajdoš families, including in my family tree. The last name Holý is mentioned in local chronicle. For Fačkov records, the best is to visit any FamilySearch Center and ask about  for example this film # 004945113.

Lidéřovice, a part of Vnorovy, is in the Czech Republic, Southern Moravia, by Hodonín (Hodonin district). The church records, such as birth, baptism, marriage and death records, are accessible online here https://www.mza.cz/actapublica/matrika/hledani?typ=obec&search_by_obec=…

If you need more assistance (How to..) - feel free to join us at the CGSI virtual quarterly genealogy meeting. Next one is on May 4, 2024 and starts at 1:00 PM CT.  https://cgsi.org/events/cgsi-czech-slovak-research-discussion-group-onl….

Thank you for your post. yvegen

Hi Tim. If you want to find your ancestor in records overseas you must have the name of the village that they came from, or at least the parish. All records are organized according to the region of the village. Unfortunately, there is no grand index where you can look up a name. Here is a link to some hints on what kind of records to look at if you need to discover the village of origin. https://cgsi.org/resources/intro-research/which-records-search Perhaps you have already looked at these types of records. I would encourage you to go local if you must, looking at the records held in the American towns in which they settled. Church records and small local papers are not usually covered by the super huge databases at Ancestry or Family Search. Also talk to cousins who might have letters, or other papers from these immigrants. Sometimes looking at Ancestry family trees or Family Search World Tree will lead you to others who already know this critical fact about your ancestor. Do you have the obituaries and death certificates for ALL these ancestors and their siblings? You can email me at info@CGSI.org-Judi
