Description

Greetings fellow researchers. I am looking for anyone with ties to the Slovak village of Oravsky Biely Potok in the old Orava districk in Nothern Slovakia near the Polish border. My Great Grandparents immigrated through Canada and ultimately ended up in Eastern, WA where I was born and raised. My Great Grandfather Ignace Marcinek changed his name to Ignes Marchinek and married Franca Domska in Grand Forks, BC. Ignes is said to have had 4 older brothers, all of whom immigrated before him but were lost. Franca also had a brother, John Domsky, who lived in Grand Forks but has been lost to the family. Last was a cousin to Ignes, Gabrial Palek (Pallek) who had a son Leo who lived in Grand Forks but his family has again drifted away.

I am looking for anyone related or from the village. I am also very interested in the lives of the peasants from the Orava area. What they did, their beliefs, stories and culture. As with many immigrant families most of this heritage was lost when they wanted their kids to become Americans and forget the peasant past of the old country.

Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you.

Shawn
