Description
Looking for ancestry records for great-grandparents Amon and Ana (Cervinka) Smata, and grandmother Agnes (Anuska) Smata (born 1906). Place of birth Okucani, Croatia? 1912 passenger list from ship passage shows their place of origin as Bohemia. Wanting to dig deeper into their ancestry and places of origin/where they lived in Europe.

Hi Kimberly,
The names might be spelled various ways and there is a probability the similar names might show up in various countries.
It would be helpful to know a little bit more, such as where they lived in the US. Please, check all relevant US Fed. Censuses for a consistency, especially what they listed as their birthplaces and birthplace of their parents. For example, if in the USFC 1920 was listed Yugoslavia or Czechoslovakia - and what language was spoken at home - this all you can read from the census.
Perhaps you could attend one of the CGSI quarterly discussion sessions online, the upcoming one will be on Nov 2, 2024. It will be listed on the CGSI website under News and Events. We could give you some ideas at this virtual meeting. Thank you. yvegen
