Hodonin
Hi!
First time post. I am trying to research my mother’s grandfather’s line with very little to go on.
Stephen Koss (Kosz/Koszt) was born Aug. 20, 1888 in ‘Austria’ according to his death certificate in 1930.
His parents are Stephen and Anna (Kovalick) Kosz or Koszt. Steve Jr. came to America around 1903. Have not yet found an immigration record that matches.
Steve Koss also filled out a WWI draft registration that listed his original citizenship as what looks like Hodenden (sp?), Bohemia. Here is the link to the Draft Registration:

Can anyone help me figure out where this locale could be? I looked on a list of historical German and Czech places and the town of Hodonin piqued my interest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_historical_German_and_Czech_names_…
Was is located in Bohemia? If this looks close, which parish could I write to for birth records in that region?
Thank you, in advance. This side of the family has been very elusive, but I am still determined to break through.

There are 4 Hodonin locations, 2 in Bohemia, 2 in Moravia. I took a look at the birth records for the 1888 date in the Moravian locations, and did not find him.
Here is an index for the “K” names for one of the Moravian locations. No Kosst.
