Passport application records

I’m told my ancestor held an Austrian passport issued in 1853 (likely because Bohemia was part of the Austrian empire at that time).

Anyone have any idea if passport application records from this era still exist, and if they do where I would find them?

My ancestors came over in 1860, and we have their exit visa and birth/marriage documents that they needed when they left. We were told that the passport applications no longer existed, but our researcher in the Trebon Archives found it, reportedly in a box of uncatalogued documents.

So I am guessing the answer to your question is that they might exist, and a researcher who is very familiar with those archives might be able to find them.
